In order to accurately establish the correct footwear for each person, we perform a biomechanical assessment consisting of 12 podiatry based foot and lower limb tests this is then coupled with a manual gait analysis.
In many cases we also perform a video gait analysis, this enables you to see yourself in slow motion, if you so wish!
All these tests combine to establish more than just: "Am i a pronator or not", but to assess complete foot function, ankle dorsiflexion, flexibility, big toe function, pelvic and leg length differences and more.
Considering that forces exceeding three times your body weight will have to be dealt with every step you take, it is highly important to run in a shoe of the right weight and type.
In most cases this can mean the difference between enjoying your running, and being trapped indoors with an injury that just won't shift; weeks before an important event.
We are also fully backed by very experienced podiatrists. So if your biomechanics are so complicated that even our senior consultants are scratching their heads!
We can refer you to the podiatrists, who will take care of you.
The tests take approximately 10 mins and it is preferable to see your feet 'naked' so if you would prefer to keep your socks on, just mention it to your consultant. It is a real help if you can bring your previous running shoes (as we can 'read the wear' ) but it is not crucial. We look forward to meeting your feet!
